SASHA

Dear sweet Sasha,
The day you were born, you were greeted by your ma and pa

You have arrived, you are now here
You were welcomed with lots and lots of cheer

You came into this world as a handsome prince
And your parents’ eyes full of loving glints

Okay, you’ve got to admit, there was a bit of confusion
When you arrived, they came to the conclusion

That you were a prince not the princess that was expected
None the less you are absolutely beautiful, nothing could be perfected

Now, listen to a very, very old man
He wants to give you some insight
Like only an old man can
Please listen to him tonight

He wants to give you some advice
See life is an adventure- live it well, it will surely entice

You’ve got a lifetime ahead of you
With lots of things to experience and do

Experience it well; seek adventures, live life to the fullest extent;
There’s so much to see and do, it’s quite an event

Be alert, safe and be keen
That is what needs to be done -- life is a full scene

We look forward to watching you grow through the years
We are there for you -- through the fun and the tears

We see you are well protected by your family and parents
They watch over you with a lot of love -- to us, this is very apparent

We want you to be aware
We can tell, you’ve got that joi de vivre- that flair!

You will find out that you’ll go through all of life’s stages
Before you grow up -- become of age

Now, you are a bundle of joy
But there’s bound to be a time when you will annoy

That’s just part of growing up
You know -- the little hiccups

So, don’t you worry about a thing
This is just a part of what life will bring

So grow up strong in heart and soul
Be a beautiful person- inside and out - that is your goal

A BRIEF MOMENT IN TIME

It was a fateful day in early fall,
When life threw us all a curve ball

On that day our lives changed forever
When our physical ties with you were severed

The plane of your existence has been changed
The daily routine on our plane has been re-arranged

Our physical interaction has been interrupted
We, who love you dearly- our emotions have erupted

In time we’ll come to terms with how this came about
Our personal hardship- the sorrow we’ll overcome – there is no doubt

We- the ones to stay behind
We need to bear in mind

There is a trenchant and intense bond
That spans between us on any plane – and beyond

Our physical ties have been severed
And now you are on your way to new endeavours

You live in our hearts forever and ever
Forgetting you is not an option –never, no never

We will have our dearest memories of who you are
As we see you off – we will not bid you “au revoir”

But rather- an “a la Prochaine”
Because we know we will see each other again.

NATURE – PUSHED TO THE BRINK

In the mighty vastness, I stand alone
I look around and wonder…. How can we atone?

The planet we call home is hurt
Now is the time to be on the alert

Look around you and see what destruction has been done
It is a quandary of the world that somehow had begun

It all started in a small innocent way
It grew and grew to great amounts of decay

Taking a little bit here, a little bit there
Now we are at a time of nature’s great despair

The pollution, the pilfering just grew and grew
And now nature has gone askew

The time has come to turn things around
Let’s all pitch in to get actions off the ground

Give back what was pilfered and plundered
Show mother earth – we want to change what we have blundered

When Fish Cry

As I reminisce about times gone by,
I cannot help but sigh.

I think back to when I was young,
When times were exciting, adventurous and fun

As a youngster, I used to swim in bright clear waters, oh so blue
With patches of bright sunlight shining through

Frolicking, playing with my sisters and brothers
Such fun times we had with one and other

That was a long time ago
The ocean where I live has since taken a major blow

I now swim through the muck and the dregs of man
Wondering how and when this darkness began

Swimming through the waters, dark and murky
I try to make sense of it – the water is so dirty

My tears blend with the salt,
I don’t understand -who is at fault?

The bright clear world we had at one time,
It has all changed, what is all this grime?

No more, do I see the patches of sunlight
Now, darkness and murkiness is my plight

There are no happy smiles in the sea
All that my old eyes see, is debris

Gloom and darkness for miles and miles
Pale, bleached out coral around the isles

Where my beautiful home used to be
There is no plant life, no fellow ocean dwellers, nothing to see

Our population is a dwindling
We, the ocean dwellers need rekindling

I’m coming to my end, I am old
But, I hope that the our story will be told

A deep sadness fills my old soul
As I wonder - who was it that stole
The beauty of my world
